Learning 4 Life is Llamau’s own alternative, pre-vocational learning programme. We work with the people that Llamau supports to develop the independent-living and employability skills that many of us take for granted. Learning 4 Life first began back in 1998 in Cardiff and Barry as a response to the clear barriers young people working with Llamau were facing when engaging with work, training or education.
The young people that we work with may have had disrupted schooling and lacked educational opportunities, meaning that they are disproportionately represented in the numbers of young people not in education, employment or training. Learning 4 Life aims to address these barriers by providing Llamau service users with the first steps in improving Basic Skills, employability skills and, most important of all, confidence.
Learning 4 Life is an integral part of many young people’s experience of Llamau and shows how Llamau aims to address multiple barriers to progression in a holistic way. Learning 4 Life helps young people to realise that they can achieve and helps them to see themselves as learners and as having potential. Learning 4 Life helps young people make the first steps towards employment with practical support such as CV writing and interview practice but also with support to gain the skills needed for work and the confidence to take the first step.
Through the Learning 4 Life programme, Llamau is an approved provider of City & Guilds Essential Skills Wales qualifications in Application of Number, Communication and ICT. We are also approved to offer a range of Agored Cymru Awards including Health & Safety in the Workplace, Internet Safety Awareness and Understanding Feelings.
Learning 4 Life also delivers the pre-employability training part of our Symud Ymlaen / Moving Forward programme in South Wales and in Flint and Wrexham. You can find out more about Symud Ymlaen here
